Cause we's okies

I never watch our local news. Never. It's all half assed reporting and puff pieces with whatever 30 second clip of actual news they've chosen for the day. Unfortunately one of the biggest news pieces lately has been Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to the US (who decided to let the bastard in anyway? if restaurants have the right to refuse service shouldn't the United States have the same right?)and the speeches he gave while here. Now, one would assume that if you *knew* you were going to have to read something off a teleprompter that may be somewhat outside your realm of commonly used words that you might fit in some time to work on the proper enunciation. Well, you know what "ass"uming does.

So with out much, if any, practice these idiot "reporters" (I use that term loosely) attempt to pronounce Ahmadinejad's name. Live. On air. It ends up sounding something like this-
"Iranian President MyMOOD Akmar....Amaginina.....Ak-MAD-din-E-Gad is set to visit the United States this week."
*sigh*
Now I know that the two dozen people who watch our local news probably couldn't even tell you who OUR president is. So I'm sure they don't know who Iran's president is. But for God's sake if you're going to call yourself a reporter you could at least get on Wikipedia and study the pronunciation.
So I gave them a shot. Now I'm back to Fox, Glen Beck, and Hannity. Sorry i strayed boys, guess I just needed a reminder.

I not even going to go into how Mahmoud got all pissy* because someone asked him a difficult question and actually expected him to answer it. Big wuss. Will someone press the big red button and get this over with already?

*Can someone explain to me why blogger's spell check won't recognize "pissy" as a word but gives me a not so pleasant word for the female anatomy as the first suggestion for replacement?

The first one was easy

Ed and I started trying to get pregnant as soon as we closed on our house. It took several months of trying and fertility treatments to get that way but it (obviously) happened. I had an easy pregnancy and, despite the c section, a pretty easy delivery and recovery. Remington was a pretty easy baby after the fist 6 weeks. He had "colic" which I'm certain is pediatrician speak for "He's crying a lot and we don't know why but we have to tell you something to justify what we're charging you."

Now he'll be 3 in January and is the most amazingly intelligent little boy. Last week, while standing in line to check out, I made him hold my hand because he wouldn't stay with in a comfortable distance from me. He looks at me and says "If you keep making me hold your hand we're going to have serious issues." A few days later he asks if he can use my highlighter. I reminded him that we only draw on paper and he says "We've already had this conversation." This kid has perfect enunciation on top of it which makes it all the more hilarious.

I adore my son and I'd do anything for him. He's just a really cool little man.

I am an only child. It's never bothered me. My husband is the youngest of five, three boys and two girls. He speaks to one of his brothers regularly and they're pretty close. As for his other three siblings, well he doesn't have much use for them.

Lately we've been talking about the possibility of having a second child. I'm afraid that, because I don't know what it's like to have a sibling, that I may choose not to have a second child and be robbing Remi of something really great. But then I look at my husband and his sisters and I think "What if they hate each other?"

The choice to get pregnant the first time was the an easy one. This time I'm struggling. I'm not opposed to another baby but I'm not all gung ho about it either. And that makes me feel guilty. I mean shouldn't I be really excited about it before we start trying?

It will be next summer before any decisions are made. It's not that I'm not ready. Financially and emotionally we're prepared. It just doesn't seem like a pressing matter. I keep thinking that maybe one day I'll just know it's the right time. And I know that having a baby so that Rem has someone to play with is a ridiculous reason. Right?

If we started trying next June, Remi would be at least 4 and maybe 5 by the time I gave birth. Is that a good age difference? Is it too much? Can one of you just tell me what to do so I can stop obsessing?

Hard times, good life

My husband and I have had some rough times lately. I was 19 when we met, he was 29. He knew who he was. I had no idea. I'm older now, 25, and I've got a lot more to learn. But I've come a long way in the last few years. Unfortunately, there are some things I can't get through my thick head. One, is that in a marriage, when you're needs change, it's a hell of a good idea to notify your partner. Seems most people *can't* read minds and it helps them out a whole bunch if you just tell em what you want. Especially when it's a man. Whoops.

So for the last six months Ed and I have been just awful to each other. I'd get shitty when he'd so something I didn't like. But he didn't know he'd done something I didn't like so I just came off looking like a crazy bitch. So he'd get shitty back. Then that would piss me off more. Seeing the pattern yet?

Well last week it finally came to a head. Seems when you talk things out, and you really do love each other, and you've got just about the cutest little boy in the world to think about, there just isn't much you can't work through. I updated him on what I need, he did the same and we've spent alot of time making sure we get those needs met. He's being more affectionate, helping out around the house more. I'm making sure to get enough sleep (which means not only am I happier but I have the energy for a certain mariatal obligation *wink wink*)and I really watch my tone of voice when I speak to him.

Thank God it's been this this simple to fix. We've also agreed to have regular "maintenance" talks so we don't get to this point again. We've been married 4 years so we've got a long way to go and I know this is just one of many bumps in the road. But I sure do love that man. And that goes a long way.

I'm just not seeing it

I've had half a dozen people tell me recently that I look like a local news anchor woman. I'm not seeing it. This is her-

And this is me-

The resemblance is elluding me

Sleepover and a county fair

My best friend and I are having a sleepover tonight. Our kids are a week apart in age and always have fun together. Also her husband was deployed on Wednesday for a month in South America. He's a major in the Air Force, an AWAC's pilot, so it's going to be a surveillance thing. Low danger, thank God. But she's lonely and we thought it would be fun to put the kids to bed and play games and eat pizza. I also bough some champagne and peach schnapps to mix and we're renting Thelma and Louise. Hubby is going to his friends to load bullets this evening and never gets home before 11, so tonight's a good night for it.

My dad came down today and we took Stinker to the County Fair (how's that for Southern LOL.) It has a pretty impressive petting zoo (read: 4H show animals who are so hot and sick of kids they're apathetic about you touching them.) Stinker got to ride the Merry Go Round and play on the tractors at the tractor show. We stayed for a bit of the tractor pull but it rained last night and it was so freaking humid I had to peal my clothes away from my body. So we skipped out on the last half and headed to a local BBQ place for lunch. Luckily today was a game day so everything in town (except for around campus that is) was empty. Any other day you'd have been standing in line for half an hour to get a seat.

We won the game BTW. Not by as large a margin as last week but then again Miami's a better team than North TX. And even though I wasn't near my TV all day I live in Sooner Town and everywhere you went there was a radio/TV/couple of old men that were discussing the game so I didn't miss a thing.

So I'm off to rent our moive and head to my sleepover. I think there will be three of us there for our Girls Night Out so it should be fun. I bought Would You Rather.... and I have a feeling after a few glasses of bubbly things are going to get pretty funny.

Now things are gonna get intersting

Seems Fred Thompson has announced his candidacy. I've been waiting for this. The other Republican candidates are taking jabs at him for announcing his intent on Leno, for skipping last nights debate, and for waiting so long to run. Seems thou doth protest too much. The man has been ranked in the top of GOP candidates for months and he wasn't even running. The funny thing is that in response he mentioned that it's harder to get on Leno than it is to get in a Republican debate. Touche.

Marriage

Marriage (Part I )

Typical macho man married typical good-looking lady, and after the wedding, he laid down the following rules:

"I'll be home when I want, if I want and at what time
I want -- and I don't expect any hassle from you.
I expect a great dinner to be on the table unless
I tell you that I won't be home for dinner.
I'll go hunting, fishing, boozing, and card-playing
when I want with my old buddies, and don't you
give me a hard time about it.
Those are my rules. Any comments?"

His new bride said:
"No, that's fine with me. Just understand that there will be sex
here at seven o'clock every night...whether you're here or not."

************************************************

Marriage (Part II)

Husband and wife had a bitter quarrel on the day of their 40th wedding anniversary!

The husband yells, "When you die, I'm getting you a headstone
that reads, 'Here Lies My Wife -- Cold As Ever'!"

"Yeah?" she replies. "When you die, I'm getting you a headstone
that reads, 'Here Lies My Husband -- Stiff At Last'!"

*****************************************

Marriage (Part III)

Husband (a doctor) and his wife are having a fight at the
breakfast table.

Husband gets up in a rage and says, "And you are no
good in bed either," and storms out of the house.

After some time he realizes he was nasty and
decides to make amends and rings her up.

She comes to the phone after many rings, and the irritated
husband says, "What took you so long to answer to the phone?"

She says, "I was in bed."

"In bed this early, doing what?"

"Getting a second opinion!"

*****************************************

Marriage (Part IV)

A man has six children and is very proud of his achievement.

He is so proud of himself, that he starts calling his
wife," Mother of Six" in spite of her objections.

One night, they go to a party. The man decides that it is time
to go home and wants to find out if his wife is ready to leave as well.
He shouts at the top of his voice, "Shall we go home Mother of Six?"

His wife, irritated by her husband's lack of discretion,
shouts right back, "Any time you're ready, Father of Four."

THE SILENT TREATMENT

A man and his wife were having some problems at home
and were giving each other the silent treatment.

Suddenly the man realized that the next day he would need his wife
to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight.

Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper,"Please wake me at 5:00 AM." He left it where he knew she would find it.

The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it
was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight.

Furious, he was about to go to see why his wife hadn't wakened him when he
noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM. Wake up."

All alone

Hubby left today to do a dive job and won't be home until Friday or Saturday. Stinker's going to stay the night with his grandma because I work 4a to 9a. Usually he rides to work with his daddy (who works on the same property his parents live) and grandma brings him home when I get home from work. But it's just too much for me to have to get him up and ready and either drop him off or for her to come get him at 2:30 am. So he's just going to stay the night and she'll bring him back to me in the morning then get him again tomorrow evening. It's a mess but thankfully it doesn't happen often. It's just hard to turn down the money he gets paid to dive.

In the meantime I have some new books to read and a loaded .40 in my nightstand. Oh yeah did I forget to mention that I'm a huge wuss and when my 6'3" 250lb husband isn't sleeping next to me I tend to freak out? Sigh. I'm gonna miss my boys!

Weekend update

Hubby woke my up on Saturday morning to go to breakfast. Then he surprised me with a trip to a small local gun show. It's no Wanenmacher's but it was surprisingly good. We wandered for half the day and found a few things we wanted but decided to wait until Sunday to see if we could get em to come down on the prices. Stinker was excellent the entire time and for his patience he was rewarded with a fully auto Airsoft rifle sans the ammo. He just really likes the noise it makes but doesn't have the strength to cock the pistols. In comes the fully auto and the problem is solved. However I may have to buy stock in Motrin. After that we went to my favorite Mexican food restaurant (a treat for me since I burned hubby out on it a few months back)and had some excellent queso and a few Tecate's. We stopped by WalMart for a few lazy weekend snacks (Chex Mix and Double Stuffed Elf cookies for me, corn chips and Bottle Caps for hubby) and headed home. The husband left to go load (800 rounds I found out after he got home) and I dropped the Stinker off at Grandma's and left with my best friend for the first OU game of the season (we dominated.)

Sunday we got up early and had breakfast with a good friend of ours (the one hubby loaded with Sat night.) It's an almost every Sunday thing and we all really look forward to it. Said friend is 68 and has no grandkids (his eldest son is gay and his youngest son just got married at 33)so he's adopted the Stinker as a surrogate grandkid. He's more of a dad to hubby than FIL is. Neither of his son's is into guns so it works out well. Then we all headed back to the show where hubby acquired an upper of some sort (I wasn't paying attention), a new .223, some ammo, some brass, and sold two of his guns. Our friend bought some loading supplies and I came home with a Springfield XD .40 and some adorable digital camo pants for the Stinker (who was again the model child.) We had lunch at Applebee's and went to Home Depot where hubby had been eyeing a bag that, as it turns out, makes an excellent range bag.

This morning we again got up early and went to breakfast with our friend and we all went out to the range where he and I are members. I played in the sand with Stinker while they shot at the long range then hubby took him and I got to break in my new XD. I'm. In. Love. I also shot a S&W MP in a 9mm. That was my other choice and I'm so glad I went with he Springfield. Right outta the the box it was hitting dead center and had less recoil than the S&W in the smaller caliber. I'm really looking forward to my next IPSC match so I can use the gun. I wish they'd had it in the tactical barrel but for the price I'm not bitching.

After the range Hubby and friend went to buy a gun from a gentleman they met yesterday and I came home to clean out my closet. The cool weather this morning combined with football season remineded me it was about that time. I filled an entire 33 gallon trash bag with Stinker's clothes from last winter. Ridiculous. This year the kids getting 5-6 pairs of jeans and 10-15 tee shirts. That's it. There was stuff in there he wore once last year. I have got to stop doing that.

All in all it was a really pleasant family weekend. Reminds me how lucky I am to have a husband and son that are so wonderful. Not to metion the really great friends we have. I'm a lucky girl.

"Obsessed" may be a *bit* strong

You're Lolita!

by Vladimir Nabokov

Considered by most to be depraved and immoral, you are obsessed with
sex. What really tantalizes you is that which deviates from societal standards in every
way, though you admit that this probably isn't the best and you're not sure what causes
this desire. Nonetheless, you've done some pretty nefarious things in your life, and
probably gotten caught for them. The names have been changed, but the problems are real.
Please stay away from children.

Take the Book Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.

Things that make ya go Hmmmmm

Why is called the Waffle House? They have 17 gazillion types of hash browns ans three (count em'...3) types of waffles. Why isn't it the Hashbrown House?

When someone asks me to do something and ends the request with "Please and Thank you" does that mean I no longer have the option to refuse their request? What with already having been thanked and all.

If you don't like college ball, hate large SUV's, and/or were one of those punk bastards who lived in all black and spent your Saturday nights in high school playing D&D and bad mouthing the girls that actually cared what they looked like, why for Gawd's sake would you ever move to a Southern college town with a kick ass football team? We are all about the gas guzzling vehicle driving, shameless school color wearing All American blonde cheerleader types with their big husbands drinking unpretentious beer and yelling profanity at the other team (and occasionally our own) for 16+ weeks of the year. May I suggest you not walk around loudly badmouthing the Sooners or the cute blonde in short red shorts and a white tee on the first game day of the year. It makes my husband want to hang your pretentious little ass from the nearest goal post for insulting his wife. You weren't cool in high school and you sure as hell arent' cool now. If you don't like our spirit- move.
