Alex my sweet baby girl. You are six months old already. You are nothing at all like your brother was at this age. You are smaller, more delicate some how. Yes you still have those delicious rolls and chubby cheeks that I love to pinch. You have no use for those milestone charts I keep getting in my Inbox. Your brother blew through them. Sitting up, rolling over, crawling, walking all accomplished by 8 months. You have decided to do things in your own time. Not when some damn chart says you should. You are your own woman, my dear. You are laid back and calm, always studying the situation around you. You could care less who holds you and you are quick to grin that amazing toothless smile at anyone that greets you. You fall asleep in my arms with no fuss. You nurse only when you are hungry. You cry when you are overly tired, or wet and for no other reason. So unlike your rambunctious brother.
Yet the two of you adore one another. You will grin at him more quickly then anyone else in the world. You are patient with him as he learns to hold you and as he explores you by poking and prodding. You can tell the the adoration is mutual in the shared looks and cuddles. It's amazing for me to watch.
You have started growling. It's your way of expressing frustration and joy and amusement. It's odd and adorable and wonderful. You are not yet crawling and I am in no hurry for that. You have no teeth but you manage to do you fair share of eating. You love to be held and cuddled and kissed. You love raspberries blown on your tummy and when Daddy tosses you ever so gently in the air. Your are my monkey. With your pale blond peach fuzz for hair and your big deep blue eyes that look in to mine and see me in a way I've never really been seen before.
You are my wish, my hope, my love. You are my everything. You are what taught Daddy and I that love does not divide. It only multiplies. I wish the world for you and I hope that you and your brother continue to appreciate each other, through the inevitable arguments, because together you make up the two halves of my heart. I love you baby girl. Happy 6 month birthday.

It's the small things
I've been curious about cranberry farming since I saw the flooded fields in whatever that juice commercial is. Every time I see it I tell my husband I wish I knew how they DO that. Today I come home and on the TiVo I see an episode of Dirty Jobs. In it mike Rowe is making bricks and.... farming cranberries. No amount of flowers or candy in the world makes me feel more special than knowing that not only does my husband listen and rememeber the seemingly insignificant things I tell him, he cares enough to act on it. He doesn't even WATCH Dirty Jobs. TiVo'd cranberry farming... that's true love.

Broken filter
My dad has always told me that God forgot to install the filter bewtween my brain and my mouth. My internal filter is beyond repair. You wnat butt pats you've coem to the wrong palce. Which means if you come to me whining for advice I will give it to you, uncensored and unrrated. If you then shoot down Every. Single. Suggestion I make with some lame excuse be prepared. I will tell you that it isn't your husband's fault your marriage is in the shitter. The man TOLD you exactly what he needed and you continued to ignore him. You made excuses about conflicting schedules and kids that get "upset" about going to bed early and about how you don't want to go outside and do things becasue its cooooooooooold. Guess what? We he leaves your whining excuses to find a woman that will LISTEN to him, you will get no sympathy from me. Men are simple. If you've already had sex, make him a damn sandwich. Put the kid to bed early no matter how pissed she gets. Better to have a slighty mad 2 year old than to be a single mother. You have a husband who cares enough to tell you what he needs changed (and has reasonable requests) and didn't just immediatly try to replace your bitchy ass (I wouldn't have blamed him.)
It comes down to one thing- The best gift you can give your child is to love her father. He is not there only to pay bills and make sperm donations. He has needs and feelings and he's TRYING for God's sake. Try with him!!! And stop whinign to me. I ran out of cheese ages ago.

I survived
I am an industrial engineer for your friendly brown parcel delivery service. During peak season I am their bitch. I loaded 1400 packages in 5 hours this morning. The madness is over. Peak season has ended. I no longer have to work 16 hour days. I will no longer be expected to survive on vending machine fair and 3 hours of sleep. I. Am. Free.
Now for an update- My grandfather passed on December 4th. Had he lived 6 more days he would have been 74 years old. He was not sick. He had no high blood pressure, no high cholesterol, no heart condition. He came home and fell asleep in his recliner and didn't wake up. My dad, who lives with him, found him at 6:15pm with the phone book in his lap, his thumb still marking the last page he was looking at. I will miss him dearly. He taught me many things. Things like "You can be right, or you can be happy. Sometimes you have to decide which is more important." He taught me how a man should treat his wife. Jack Podge and Joyce Ray were married on June 12, 1954, one month after her high school graduation. She had never kissed another boy. A year and a half later, to the day, my father, Jack Jr. was born. Two years later his brother, Jeff, was born. I am the oldest of three grandchildren and the only girl. My two cousins, my uncle's boys, have both grown to be fine men. My Granny left us on April 18, 2000. My Poppa's soul left with her that day, leaving us with only a shell of who he was. I believe, with all of my being, that they were a rare example of soul mates. I've not seen two people so deeply devoted to one another since. He's been waiting to be with her. Since she's been gone he's watched all three of his grandchildren graduate high school and college. He's watched two of us get married. He got to meet his first great grandchild and got to know the woman who is about to give birth to his second. And through it all, he wanted to be with her. He loved us, I've no doubt about that. He tried his best to live the remainder of his life with the same gusto he got through the first half with. But that spark in his eyes was gone. The lust for life, extinguished. He is with her now. They are happy. I'm not sad for him, I'm sad for me. I will miss him. I will mourn the loss of my child in getting to know this great pioneer. However the last time I talked to him, two days before he passed, he told me how much he loved my husband. What a good man he thought he was. He told me all the things I needed to do to "keep that boy around." I will Poppa. I will love him the same way I watch you love Granny. I will make you proud, in the way I live my life, the way I nurture my marriage, the way I raise my son. And I will know that you and Granny are sitting on the bank of a catfish pond in heaven laughing and holding hands talking about what a great life you had. We will all do our very best to honour you. I love you both very much and I hope to see you someday.

Speaking of love
Seems two of my favorite people in the blog world are all in love and stuff. Which is totally wonderful and I wish the best for them. I do hope we get the occasional peak into their budding relationship though. Cause I'm nosey like that. Just sayin.
And here in my own little love bubble it's my 4 year wedding anniversary! We'll be going out to Charleston's with our maid of honor/best man (who are also married) on Saturday just as we do every year. But today is just for us. So tonight I'll be cooking my amazing husband his favorite meal (with dessert) and afterwards he'll get to see what I bought at Victoria's Secret yesterday. :wink wink: I can't believe it's been four years. He's given me patience, strength, the ability to trust and to be myself. He also helped me create the cutest little bugger ever whom we both just adore. I look forward to many more years of parenting, loving, and laughs with him. I hope everyone finds this kind of love someday!

Love
I'm having a good day. It's Friday, I get to hang out with my favorite SIL this evening and have good food and a few beers. Tomorrow I get to see my dad and a bunch of family I haven't seen in ages. And Sunday we've got a 50th Birthday party for one of hubby's friends that should be a ton of fun. And on top of all that I have a man in my life that can make me feel loved and sexy and feminine and cared for and strong and I couldn't ask for more. Well except for more alone time. But we're working on that!

To my husband
I don't tell you ant of these things nearly as often as you deserve to hear them. So I'm immortalizing them here online so everyone will know how much I appreciate you.
I'd like to thank you for supporting me. When I told you I wanted to start competition pistol shooting you immediately went out and bought me the best pistol we could afford. When I mentioned I'd like to start hunting you set up a trip just for me. When I told you i wanted to go back and get my graduate degree you paid for my books and picked up the slack at home so I would have more time to study. When I look tired you always mange to find something fun for you and our son to do out of the house so I can nap.
I never have to worry about my oil changes, the yard work, the leaky toilet or having the propane filled. You aren't very talkative at all, much less about your "feelings." But these things say more to me than any amount of flowers or jewelry or cards.
You're an amazing father. Our son will never have to feel the way you and your brothers do. He'll never wonder why you never took him fishing or hunting. He'll never lack for someone to practice pitching or tackles. No matter how badly your knees hurt you never complain when he wants you to lay in the floor and be his jungle gym. When he falls or gets hurt you always manage to beat me to him to ask if he's OK and to give him hugs. You're also faithful in sneaking him candy and ice cream.
You remember my birthday and our anniversary. You ask me why I bother putting on make up. And you mean it. You're patient with me me when even Job wouldn't be. You tolerate my mood swings even if it means leaving until I calm down down.
You understand how I communicate and it doesn't bother you when I have lunch with other men. You know I'm coming home to you and you never doubt that.
You loved my stomach when it was flat and you love it still even with my C cection scar and the stretch marks. Even now, 6 years later and 20 pounds heaver, you tell me, often, how sexy I am.
I love that your a "big" man. You always make me feel safe and I get a kick out of buying you dress shirts and telling them you have a 48" chest. I find you incredibly sexy. Even if you do think your fat (you're not.)
I never imagined that I would fall in love with someone more than a decade older than me but I also never imagined I could love someone this much. You're the first person I want to call when something good (or bad) happens. We've had hard roads, and easy ones, but we always come out at the end, together.
I respect how hard you worked so I could stay home with our son and I can never thank you enough. There is nothing I can't do with you by my side.
Our anniversary is in a few weeks and I can't believe it's all gone so fast. Here's to a lifetime of anniversary's with you. To watching our son grow and spending our last years going senile together.
